Zelda Mural Gets Even Cooler When the Sun Goes Down
Big games get big advertising dollars. A game like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of Nintendo’s biggest in recent memory, heralding their big new system. It should come as no surprise then, seeing this huge Zelda mural plastered on the side of a building somewhere in Brooklyn.
Gorgeous, right? Link looking all stoic with his back to the viewer, Hyrule castle in the distance. The logos and the ESRB label killing the immersion ever so slightly. Even with the official ad-type regalia taking up the corners, it’s still a sight to behold. And then, when the sun goes down:
Blam!! The UV lights fire up and suddenly this already beautiful artwork is rich with mystery. The powers of the Sheikah tribe are blasting across the painted skyline. Link himself is suffused with ancient magic. The mural now looks so good it’s practically criminal. You can almost feel the power at peace, blanketing the kingdom once more.
Of course, this majestic scene is on display on a public street. It’s only a matter of time before the graffiti settles in like moss, choking out the mural like the dead kingdom it depicts. Although since most tagging is done after dark, maybe their artistic sensibilities will compel them to paint around the glow? Wishful thinking inspired by the high-powered radness on display. This may not be the first or the largest advertising stunt released in the wild, but it’s surely the coolest.
