Dropshot Hits Gamers With A Whole New Way To Play!
Psyonix, developers of Rocket League, officially announced today the newest match style for the ever popular soccer demolition game. Its being called Dropshot and will release on March 22nd! Best of all it will be free to all players. They also released a trailer for the new mode, check it out.
The new mode features a hexagon shaped arena, electrified balls, and smashable floors. Apparently, the new objective of this match is to smash your opponents floor tiles and score through the gaps you create. Unlike the traditional soccer and basketball formats for Rocket League, this newest one does not seem based on an actual sport. At least not any that I have heard of!
Damage is now a statistic in the game, and according to the description: “the more damage you do, the more floor panels break, and the easier it is to score a goal”. Whichever car hits the ball changes it to their color. So when it touches down on tiles colored for the opposing team it does damage. But it is whoever last touched the ball, so expect the race to be on to change the color before it hits.
The ball itself has even been changed to be used as a weapon. It will have three different phases that determine how much damage is done when the ball smashes into the floor panel. Apparently, the phases are triggered by multicar hits and the stronger you hit it the stronger it gets. So the longer you keep it airborne the more power it contains and damage it can inflict. Dropshot seems to like the smashing.
So what do you think? Does the newest mode look interesting? Will you be gearing up to smash some tiles or are you over Rocket League? Let us know in the comments.
