Injustice 2 Microtransaction Details Revealed

Microtransaction System Will be Cosmetic, “Won’t Affect Gameplay”

NetherRealm and WB dropped some details on the microtransaction system coming to Injustice 2. The “Source Crystals” system will be the secondary currency players can purchase with real money. Thankfully, the items for sale are purely cosmetic.

The system in question was explained briefly during a live stream and in more detail through a blog post earlier today. The Crystals will be used for buying skins and shaders to alter the look of your fighters. An additional level to these cosmetic tweaks will be the ability to “Transform Gear.” If you’re rocking a super sexy headpiece with terrible stats, you can use your Source Crystals to change your new gear’s appearance. This way, your fighters keep looking hot and performing at their optimal levels.

The Crystals will also be able to perform level boosts for your fighters, but only if you already have a character at level 20. This is meant to be a time-saving mechanism when building up multiple characters. The devs are very clear that this system “won’t affect gameplay or progression.”

On the flip side, the cosmetic nature of these tweaks mean they likely can’t be earned in-game. No details are available yet regarding the cost of these Source Crystals. Hopefully this info comes clear when the game is released on May 16, 2017.
