First Official Look of Alicia Vikander As The New Lara Croft
As we told you earlier this year, the new Tomb Raider movie will be released worldwide on March 28, 2018. The new film will follow two previous Tomb Raider movies and production has officially started for the film. Last month, we shared with you some pictures from the set but today we have some fresh images and there is no question Alicia looks the part.
In case you didn’t know, Alicia Vikander is taking on the role made famous by Angelina Jolie in the 2001. The new film will revolve around a young Lara who goes on her first archaeological adventure to follow in her father’s footsteps.
The Affair’s Dominic West has signed on to play Lord Richard Croft in the latest film version of the popular video games.
Alicia is adamant that the latest reboot is very much more an origin story than the Angelina Jolie version.
Alicia told website Hitfixx last year:
“They told me they were doing the film based on the reboot of the game from 2013. That is more of an origin story. You get into an emotional aspect of getting to know Lara hopefully in an in-depth way. So I hope that doing a film of the rebooted game will bring something new and fresh that’ll stand on its own two legs.”
Alicia Vikander is familiar with the video game, having played it as a youngster. She said:
“I, with the rest of the world, was excited to see a female protagonist in a video game. I was a bit scared playing it when I was 12, 13. I had to go take little breaks.”
Alicia Vikander, who won an Oscar last year for her role in The Danish Girl, will play Croft. The Hateful Eight‘s Walton Goggins will star as the main villain of the piece, while Daniel Wu, who previously starred in Into The Badlands, will play a ship captain who helps Croft in her mission to find her father.
