Gravity Rush 2 Sales Numbers For Week One
Project Siren’s innovative JRPG has been receiving a lot of buzz and at the time of its release it represented the PS4’s first great exclusive of 2017. Carried by fun action-adventure elements, unique open-world exploration, and a colorful cast of characters, Gravity Rush 2 was sure to be a hit in the sales department, right? Well, sales numbers released today suggest otherwise.
The action adventures video game from Sony Interactive Entertainment sold 147,859 units first week at retail on the PlayStation 4, according to VGChartz estimates. First week sales can be viewed on the VGChartz Global Weekly Chart for the week ending January 21. Breaking down the sales by region, the game sold best in Japan with 74,016 units sold (50%), compared to 38,272 units sold in the US (26%) and 19,339 units sold in Europe (13%). Looking more closely at Europe, the game sold an estimated 3,196 units in the UK, 2,557 units in Germany, and 4,126 units in France.
Granted this number does not take into account online sales, so the number is likely significantly higher. Regardless, we expected better sales for one of the years best, so far.
Our man James reviewed the game last month and said: “For all my little grievances, this game is still incredibly fun to play. The mechanics involved in moving, fighting and exploration are sublime in their execution. The slapdash way you rip through the skies just doesn’t get old. The combat feels tense, your mistakes are your own and there are multiple ways to win every fight. Even if the story and the side quests failed to hook me, I’m still itching to go back and explore. To unlock more outfits. To max out the skills. Whether or not you’ve played the first one, Gravity Rush 2 is a game you can’t afford to miss.”
Gravity Rush 2 released in Europe on January 18, in Japan on January 19 and in North America and the UK on January 20.
