Spencer Looking to Keep Backwards Compatibility Program Around For Awhile Yet
Earlier this month we told you what Xbox Boss, Phil Spencer, had to say about the Scorpio coming to E3. Recently, he gave us his thoughts on the backwards compatibility program and how long we wants it to stick around.
The Xbox One Backwards Compatibility program has proven to be as successful as promised when it was first revealed back at E3 2015. Since then, there has been a steady stream of games that have made their way into the program including the Mass Effect series, several Call of Duty games, BioShock and Red Dead Redemption. Although several big games are missing from the program Phil Spencer says he is committed to delivering on it into the future.
A lot of talk has been circling about the future of the Xbox brand, namely Project Scorpio with one developer claiming that the system is a “next-gen machine” capable of having your entire library be backwards compatible. Just the other day, a fan reached out to Spencer on Twitter to see if he could offer any insight into the future of backwards compatibility, and naturally, he had an answer.
@Andrew_Gilletti It’s challenging to predict the future but for me compatibility is a feature we should preserve as long as possible.

This is good news for those who remain hopeful their big games from the Xbox 360 will make their way to the Xbox One. It also remains promising that the program will stick around when Scorpio launches.
