Statistics Prove Grand Theft Auto V Is a Great Game, While Some Other Statistics Prove Water Is WetÂ
After weeks moving up the sales UK sales charts, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V has officially reached Number 1 on the list, usurping Call of Duty. Thus, we have Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare at number 2, FIFA 17 at number 3, Battlefield 1, and then Watch Dogs 2. Except, unlike all the other games here, Grand Theft Auto V was not released this year. In fact, it is three years old. How do we explain this? Aside from three long years to deliver price cuts, let’s not forget GTA V is one of the most critically-acclaimed games in history. Large accolades, 2013’s game of the year, then continuing with huge sales into current generation consoles, it’s an entity of it’s own. And the recent 6 million sales don’t even account for PC digital.
And here is the verdict of this same week last year:
- Call of Duty:Â Black Ops 3
- FIFA 16
- GTA V
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege
- Star Wars Battlefront.
The UK maintains its usual suspects, with EA, Activision, Ubisoft and Rockstar games all topping its charts. As you can see, Grand Theft Auto V competed in distribution with all the same names. But, again, it was an older name. Take-Two Interactive consistently competes with the industry’s top publishers through a phantom title, raking in millions of dollars against each year’s most anticipated releases despite passing its zenith.
And so, we move as far back as 2015, the one year EA didn’t release a shooter:
- GTA VÂ
- FIFA 15
- Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare ,
- Far Cry 4Â
- MinecraftÂ
Of course, GTA V was still relatively fresh and moving on to next generation consoles. Hence, many gamers couldn’t see themselves owning a next-gen console without Rockstar’s mega hit. So we see many gamers taking advantage of PS4 and Xbox One capability. And it certainly helped that GTA V has some of the most elaborate online-play of any RPG. Add mods into the PC mix, you get the most replayability a game can offer.
UK Sales Charts and information comes thanks to Gamesindustry.biz, and you can see the latest top ten list below. Grand Theft Auto V is out now and, evidently, still running strong. Gamers everywhere look forward to Rockstar’s next big release, Red Dead Redemption 2, coming Fall of this year. Stay tuned with COGconnected for more news as it comes. Happy gaming.
