EA Access Welcomes UFC 2 to the Party
If you’re an EA Access subscriber then you’ve had a pretty great week. Not only did we see the entire Mass Effect Trilogy hit the service thanks to the Xbox One Backward Compatibility program but both Mirror’s Edge and its sequel Mirror’s Edge Catalyst were added as well. Now comes news that the critically acclaimed UFC 2 has also been added to the program.
The value of the EA Access program has steadily increased and actually caused us to eat our words a little bit. Way back when the program was announced there was a lot of hate being thrown EA’s way due to some of their less than consumer friendly tactics. We flat out questioned what EA was really up to and are happy to eat humble pie as it has turned into one of the best subscription services out there.
UFC 2 is EA’s third foray into mixed martial arts (EA Sports MMA was the first) and obviously the second under the UFC license. COG’s Tyler Treese took on review duties for the game giving it a 73 saying that while the game had improved from its predecessor it still had a small ways to go.
EA Sports UFC 2 still isn’t fully where the series should be at by now, but it’s a step in the right direction. The lack of compelling modes really hurts the product, especially considering how THQ was able to put out games with more variety to them. The overall gameplay has been improved substantially from last year’s outing, but striking still feels rough around the edges. Die hard mixed martial arts fans will find some fun here, but also some disappointment after they play enough exhibition matches.
The good news is that despite its minor issues if you’re an EA Access subscriber you can now play it for free. So what are you waiting for? As Brice Buffer would say… IT’S TIIIIIIME!!!!
