Phil Spencer on Xbox Scorpio vs PS4 Pro Differences
If there’s one thing we’ve learned we can count on from Phil Spencer it’s the fact he’s almost always willing to speak his mind. If he’s not hamstrung by some confidential and contractual gobbledegook he quite often gives us the straight goods and that is something we can certainly appreciate. In a recent interview with Japanese magazine Weekly Famitsu, the Xbox top dog was asked directly what he thought the difference was between the PS4 Pro and Microsoft’s Project Scorpio. His answer didn’t provide us with a lot of information.
Phil immediately pointed out that trying to describe what a console could or could not do isn’t quite as easy as dropping a number. The development team has had a focus from the start with Project Scorpio and that focus is balance. Balance between memory, CPU, and GPU is extremely important. Phil further went on to say that while saying ‘6 teraFLOPS’ is a simple way of noting possible performance that it doesn’t explain much. Anyone who has developed games for a long period of time would likely agree. In Phil’s opinion, he believes that with just the right balance that the games we see hit Project Scorpio will look very different from games that we’ll be seeing this year.
Well, Phil, we’d like to say we’re walking away from this with a little bit more knowledge than before but sadly, we are not. Obviously, Microsoft feels like they’re upcoming Xbox One 2.0 will top the PS4 Pro but exactly how is still unknown… you know, except for that 6 teraFLOPS. As always, keep it locked to COGconnected for more on Project Scorpio as we have it.
