Shots Fired – Scorpio Takes Aim at PS4 Pro
With 6TFLOPs of performance and a new semi-custom Polaris + Zen AMD SoC to enable 4K gaming, Microsoft’s Xbox One Project Scorpio will unquestionably be a beast of a machine. While Microsoft isn’t talking specifics about the Xbox Scorpio’s price just yet, Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg has said Microsoft sees the system as a “premium product.” We have all known about the Scorpio’s general features for some time now; however, Microsoft has yet to make any bold claims that seem to directly target the PS4 Pro.
Take particular attention to the language used on their website:
“The most powerful console ever, with 6 teraflops of graphical processing power.
The first and only console to enable true 4K gaming and hi-fidelity VR.
Compatible with all your Xbox One games and accessories”
The “first and only console to enable true 4K gaming and hi-fidelity VR” is an interesting comment and one that easily takes aim at the PS4 Pro. The upcoming PlayStation 4 Pro console upscales content to 4K, but fans were disappointed to learn it doesn’t seem to offer it natively for every game and Sony has reiterated commitment to the standard model console for VR experiences.
Sorry kids, but the console wars are alive and well. Right now, Xbox is confidently riding the wave of success of the Xbox One S and now they are starting to brag a little bit about their next console slated to release next year.
