Incredible Sounding Dolby Atmos Audio is Coming to Xbox One S

Dolby Atmos Audio is Coming to Xbox One S

There is no question, the Xbox One S is an upgrade over the original Xbox One. The only issue audio geeks have had with the Xbox One S is that despite the console’s Ultra HD Blu-ray drive, it doesn’t support next-gen audio standards. Well, that is all about to change.

Microsoft Great Moments Xbox One S

Coming soon to an Xbox One S near you, a free update adding Dolby Atmos playback (via bitstream) is coming. It’s not nearly as dramatic as Sony adding 3D Blu-ray playback to the PlayStation 3 via an update in 2010, but for audio nerds this is pretty huge news.

This is why buying a game console is a better idea than a standalone Blu-ray player: constant updates adding new features, rather than something with a fixed feature set that may never be updated. Now I guess you should consider upgrading your home theater or soundbar.

Earlier this month, we here at COGconnected were fortunate enough to get our hands on a Xbox One S Gears of War 4 Limited Edition 2TB Bundle before it was released to the public. Needless to say, we were impressed with this slick looking console that looks as if it was lifted right out of the game. The Limited Edition console features the trademark Gears of War red bears battle marks of surviving a fight against Gears of War 4’s new enemies – the Swarm. With etched in scratch marks and custom Gears of War sounds every time you turn the system on (or off) this bundle is truly unique and perfect for fans of the franchise. Check out our unboxing video as we show you what is in the box.
