Love It or Hate It There Will Always Be Call of Duty Games

Call of Duty Isn’t Going Anywhere

When it comes to the Call of Duty franchise there seems to be little middle ground. You either love it or you hate, no room for in between. To many Call of Duty is the ultimate ‘BRO’ franchise that caters to the most casual of gamers who pretty much pick up that one game, and that one game only, year after year. To others, it’s the epitome of multiplayer chaos and they’ll be loyal to the end. Well, no matter where you stand on the series Activision CEO Bobby Kotick promises you one thing; Call of Duty isn’t going anywhere.

In a recent interview for Marketplace, Kotick touched on the gaming industry as a whole and the rise of mobile gaming;

The phone has really opened up all these new opportunities… The biggest part of the growth of the industry is mobile. We’ve always been a very platform agnostic company. So our attitude is if you have a display, a microprocessor, and a way to control it, we’ll create content that is great for you. There are more places today to create great content than there ever has been before.

When pressed if he viewed the mobile revolution as a threat to more traditional forms of gaming and any of Activision’s existing big franchises he quickly kiboshed the thought. To Kotick, series like World of Warcraft and Call of Duty are “enduring franchises” as they hold the title for Activision’s longest running products. Not only that, Kotick thinks they’ll never run out of ideas when it comes to armed warfare.

The idea of having a game that centers around armed conflict through history…you never run out of ideas for Call of Duty games. There will always be Call of Duty games. And they’ll be played on a variety of devices.

Right now the publisher’s big focus is on the release of its upcoming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and despite some rough goings early on the publisher is confident the game will sell well. We attended a press event for the game and walked away more hopeful than ever for the series. As always, keep it right here on COGconnected for more on Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare as we march to its release on November 4th.
