Xbox Issues Statement on Leaked Xbox One S and Missing 4K Option
As we reported a couple of days ago, one lucky gamer in Norway managed to get his mitts on an Xbox One S console well ahead of its release date. With a scheduled release date of August 23, 2016, for the 500GB and 1TB versions, and Aug 2, 2016, for the 2TB he had a few days head start. YouTuber Krister Kallekleiv unboxed the 2TB version (available Aug 2) of the console on camera. You can read more about that HERE. Well, it just so happens more than one gamer in Norway snagged a new Xbox One S. There were several and this doesn’t sit well with Microsoft brass.
Microsoft has taken this matter seriously and offered up the following statement:
“A small number of 2TB Xbox One S consoles were prematurely delivered to fans in Norway via a retailer prior to the launch date,” a statement from an Xbox representative reads. “The first Xbox One S consoles available will be the 2TB launch edition on August 2, which upon start-up, will begin downloading the latest Xbox system update that also enables 4K functionality.”
Microsoft has made it clear that the console will require an update to get the 4K functionality up and running. One of the biggest selling points of the newest version of the Xbox One was the fact it will be able to run 4K content. So needless to say it is disappointing you cannot run 4K out of the box. Instead you will be required to download and install a large 4.5GB update. That is upsetting especially if users don’t have access to the internet.
