Xbox One S Unboxed, Won’t Run 4K Without Update
It looks like one lucky gamer in Norway has managed to get his mitts on an Xbox One S console well ahead of its release date. With a scheduled release date of August 23, 2016, for the 500GB and 1TB versions, and Aug 2, 2016, for the 2TB he has a few days head start. YouTuber Krister Kallekleiv unboxed the 2TB version (available Aug 2) of the console on camera.
As mentioned above, Krister opens up the 2TB version of the Xbox One S which definitely has a much smaller footprint than its predecessor. One of the biggest selling points of the newest version of the Xbox One was the fact it will be able to run 4K content. Another Twitter user in Russia who managed to snag an Xbox One S nice and early tweeted that his console could not run 4K out of the box.
#xboxOne just got my Xbox1s in the mail early and it doesn’t do 4K out of the box without an update. WTF? pic.twitter.com/noGLN6B4vX

The crew over at Geeksultd managed to contact kurbo76 and he had this to say about the console:
“There was no option for 4K, We had to do about a 4.5 gig update when it first powered on. We checked the display settings and it said 1080p. We changed HDMI cables and changed HDMI ports on the tv and nothing fixed the issue. Still won’t do 4K. Maybe a “Day-One” update on August 2nd when it’s supposed to come out. Bought a 4K DVD of Deadpool and tried to play it and got an error code 0x91d70001. The Xbox One S won’t play the 4K movie. Microsoft is dropping the ball on this one.”
It’ll be interesting to see how well the new console fares in comparison to its older brother. Keep it locked to COGconnected for more information on the Xbox One S as we have it.
