Here’s a quick guide to experiencing Fallout 4 mods on Xbox One next week
Xbox One owners, get ready to experience the Wasteland in a whole new way, as Fallout 4 Mods finally arrive on the console next Tuesday, May 31st. But, since mods have so far been exclusive to PC, just how will they work on your Xbox One? Don’t panic! COGconnected is here to give you all the info you need to know (with thanks to GameInformer).
How Xbox One Fallout 4 mods will work:
- All Fallout 4 mods will still need to be created on PC (using Bethesda’s Creation Kit) first. You will now be able to access those PC-created mods on your console starting Tuesday.
- Mods will be accessed via the main menu of Fallout 4. You will log on with your Bethesda.net username and password, and then you will see an interface that looks kind of like Netflix. Mods will be sectioned into various categories.
- As a console owner, you will be restricted to a download size of 2 GB for any mod you pick. This is whether the mod is enabled or not. Bethesda has said that this limit may increase in the future, but for now, you are limited.
- Loading a mod will create a new save in your game. That is good, because it means that your previous saves will not be in danger should something go wrong with a mod.
- Once a mod is enabled, Fallout 4 will reboot in order to load the mod. Another reboot will occur when disabling a mod.
- Bad news for Trophy Hunters: achievements will be disabled during mod usage, something that has annoyed PC owners for a while (they have made a mod that brings achievements back, but don’t expect to have access to that one on your console, ever).
- In their Livestream, Bethesda previewed a few of the mods you can expect – including the one that brands your Pip-Boy with Nuka-Cola colours (see picture above). There are over 2,000 mods in the Bethesda database, here.
- So far, Fallout 4 mods are console-exclusive to Xbox One. PS4 owners are expected to get them some time in June.
Fallout 4 released back in November 2015 to critical and sales success. Its latest DLC, Far Harbor, just released – check out our man Nick’s review right here.
