Top 10 RPGs of 2017
2017 has already kicked off with some fantastic RPGs. At the time this feature was posted we have already seen fantastic games like Tales of Berseria, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King for the 3DS. The year has just started, so let’s look at the top 10 RPG’s yet to be released in 2017.
10. Tokyo Xanadu eX+
JRPG and Vita fans alike can rejoice as Tokyo Xanadu (Tokyo Xanadu eX+ on the PS4) is finally making its way out West. The Vita version is set to hit in mid-2017 while the PC and PS4 version looks to release in late 2017. The game looks to play very similarly to the Persona series, with a party-based battle system and dungeon exploration despite taking place in a suburb of modern day Tokyo. The battle system is action based though, so those who dislike turn-based combat will enjoy this a bit more.
9. Nier: Automata
The 2017 sequel to the cult classic title, Nier, is set to release very soon. Recently, a demo was made available to the public and showcased some very interesting aspects of the title. Personally, the variety in gameplay really stood out to me, with typical sword-wielding action, top-down twin stick combat, and side scrolling action as well. What really stood out from the original Nier game was perhaps the story, and we certainly hope that Nier: Automata brings a solid script with it as well.
8. Torment: Tides of Numenera
Kickstarted successfully in March of 2013, Torment: Tides of Numenera is finally ready to release. The game takes place in Numera, a fantasy campaign setting which this writer knows nothing about. Despite that, Torment: Tides of Numenera looks to provide a very interesting world, narrative, and characters. Fans of 2.5D isometric RPGs will undoubtedly find themselves in familiar territory. The setting of a futuristic world that has been ravaged many times over, leaving the world in an almost medieval period is sure to intrigued fantasy fans.
