Sea of Thieves Preview – Microtransactions and Progression Done Right

Sea of Thieves Hands-On Impression

While many gamers are lost in their Fortnites and PUBGs, a vast number of us are sitting, patiently waiting for the release of Rare’s latest pirate adventure: Sea of Thieves. You’ll recall that we here at COGconnected got our hands on the Sea of Thieves beta and had an absolute blast as the worst pirates to sail the high seas, but our own James Paley was lucky enough to get an exclusive hands-on look with the game as it sails ever closer to its release. Check out the video below to see what James had to say about his time with Sea of Thieves and find out what to expect when its time to don the eye patch, grow a bear and use the word “ARR” with growing frequency.

Sea of Thieves is a first-person multiplayer adventure, casting the player as an up and coming pirate who wants to make a name for themselves. Players will be able to play solo on a small vessel, but the game is designed to encourage playing as a crew, using teamwork to scuttle enemy boats and fulfill quests for treasure and bounties. The game offers quite a bit of depth on what can be done, but the game seems to rely heavily on the multiplayer aspect for the players enjoyment. It also has no level up or experience system per character, so newcomers are able to jump in alongside seasoned players with no stat advantage, creating a more level playing field.

Sea of Thieves

The possibilities for Sea of Thieves are endless, as players could form an army of pirates to watch each others back and dominate the map, mutinies could abound, there really is no limit to what can happen on the high seas.

Sea of Thieves is set for release on March 20 and will be exclusively for Xbox One and PC. For more information, check out the games official website.
