Luke Cage Gets His Own Show
Mike Colter’s Luke Cage first debuted in the Netflix hit show, Jessica Jones. Both Daredevil and Jessica Jones became instant hits largely due to their gritty and dark tones. The mature rated shows are only loosely connected with the Marvel Comics. The new Luke Cage live-action television series appears to be headed down the same direction based on what we have seen so far. Set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Luke Cage will will premiere on September 30, 2016 on Netflix.
Some have already compared Luke Cage to The Wire as a gritty crime drama. The show sees our hero gain superpowers after volunteering for a medical experiment in prison. Following the experiment Cage discovers he has unbreakable skin and superhuman strength. Cage then uses these abilities to begin a new life as a hero for hire.
The newest trailer for Luke Cage is out now (as you can see below). In the trailer we see some of the other major players in the series, including soms of the enemies he will encounter.
Developed specifically for Netflix by Cheo Hodari Coker, the show will feature heavy drama with even heavier action. It will also feature a soundtrack that pays homage to hip hop of the ’90s. Coker describes the show as being “a powerful fusion of dark drama, hip-hop, and classic superhero action.”
Luke Cage also stars Mahershala Ali (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 & 2) as Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, Alfre Woodard (State of Affairs) as Mariah Dillard, Simone Missick (Ray Donovan) as Misty Knight, Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy) as Shades, and Rosario Dawson reprising her Daredevil and Jessica Jones role as Claire Temple.
Luke Cage season 1 will arrive on September 30th, 2016.
