John Wick Hex Might Not Be The Wick Game You Wanted

But It’s The John Wick Game You’ll Need

It would be shocking if you hadn’t heard the now common phrase that 2019 is the year of Keanu Reeves. His popularity has exploded with appearances in the instant-classic John Wick movies, Fortnite, Toy Story, Cyberpunk 2077, and of course, John Wick Hex. Making a John Wick game feels like a no brainer; this is a franchise about being a badass with a gun that features split-second reflexes and brutal combat around every corner. That’s why we were so incredibly surprised to see his first step into the video game world would be a turn-based tactical experience. Does it really work? Does slowing down the high-stakes/high-speed combat suit this now iconic character? Check out our preview video from E3 below to see what we thought.

John Wick Hex is a third person turn-based strategy combat game with a similar mechanical premise to XCOM. You’ll get to take on the role of the man himself, John Wick, and his one-man war to survive against the criminal underground. Everything happens simultaneously, and every action takes a certain amount of time. There are consequences to your actions and this manner of gameplay is perfectly suited to the split section reaction time of John Wick. The final cut of the game is set to feature an option for players to watch the entire mission play out in real time with cinematic cameras once the mission has ended, so all of those awesome kills and badass tricks you pulled off to survive will flow perfectly for some slick and stylish action which is sure to dominate YouTube once the game drops.
