Halo Combat Evolved… 14 Years Later
I remember Halo 3’s ubiquitous launch; Master Chief was everywhere. Superbowl to Pure Pwnage. G4 to Fox News. TV to Billboards. Microsoft and Bungie were on top of the world when 2007’s most anticipated game was released to sold out stores all across the world.
But that was almost ten years ago and the hype train has long since been resting at its destination. Keeping this in mind, I think it’s important to examine Halo 3 objectively as possible, because while the Halo series has lots of brilliance and passion, it also has faults that should be addressed with criticism and review.
With this in mind, Halo 3 is a video game that contains many nostalgic memories for people, because what it accomplished better than anyone else at the time was a sense of community. With forge, theatre, and file sharing, people came back to the game for years because even when Bungie were unlacing their cleats, the community would still be running crazy in the mud, coming up with new maps, new game types, and new ways to play.
