Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Video Review
Since its appearance on the Super Nintendo, the Donkey Kong Country series has always been a unique platformer able to stand on its own two feet – or swing from vine to vine – high above the competition. With hidden areas, hundreds of thousands of bananas to collect, a colorful cast of helpful allies, and a unique presentation, the series quickly became a staple for Nintendo. While Donkey Kong may have branched off into other adventures, the return to the Country franchise was a brilliant move. Tropical Freeze was sadly overlooked on the WiiU – as were many phenomenal games – but getting a second life on the Switch has shown audiences just what they missed and why this is a must-have. Check out our video review below to see why we think you need to have Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on your shelf.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is a sidescrolling platformer ported over from the Wii U. While celebrating Donkey Kong’s birthday, terrible invaders attack and disrupt the festivities. It’s up to DK and the DK crew to save the island in classic Donkey Kong form. Repackaged with some graphical updates and optional motion controls, the game also now features a Funky Kong mode in which players can control the coolest Kong on the island. Consider it to be an easier than easy mode, as Funky will be virtually unstoppable and over-powered. While some might roll their eyes at such a mode, it makes the game more accessible to younger gamers and can help you figure out how to beat that troublesome level.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is available now exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. For more information, check out the game’s official website.
