Best Roguelite Games of 2021
As we enter the final few days of the year, we at COGconnected are counting down the best Roguelite games of 2021. The this genre has proven to be one of the most successful and popular of the past few years. 2021 was a good year for games (and not much else), so let’s look at the best Roguelite games of the year.
Death is part of life. It is also part of video games. You die, you try again. In Roguelite and Roguelike games, you are meant to learn from your mistakes and apply your experience to the next run, which will often be quite different from your previous run.
Upon death, your character will have their non-essential equipment and abilities removed. You will have to find new gear and make do with your new loadout. Of course, each Roguelite has something special about it that sets itself apart from all the others.
Our list includes Unsighted, Gritlands, Undermine, Valheim, Curse of the Dead Gods, Loop Hero, Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos, Inscryption, Deathloop, and Returnal. Each are a Roguelite, each of them unique, whether as a first-person shooter, third-person shooter, deck-builder, or a survival game.
What you consider to be the best Roguelite game of the year will boil down to preference and what other elements you want in the game. Will it be the third-person sci-fi shooter Returnal or the punishing dungeon crawler Curse of the Dead Gods?
Thank you for keeping it locked on COGconnected.
