The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit Video Review – Ugh, That Poor Kid

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit Video Review

E3 this year had a ton of great surprises from all of the developers. With gun fights, car chases, aliens, explosions, and all-out action, there wasn’t much room left for some feels. A few titles had some fascinating looks at what it means to be human, but its fair to say no one was expecting to see something quite like Captain Spirit. Instead of mystery, darkness, and terrible horrifying things, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit instead showed us what it meant to be a creative and emotional young boy living with his father. It was humanizing in a way we hadn’t really experienced before, and the announcement that it would launch for free seemed too good to be true. After getting to know Chris and his father it had proven to be quite the emotional ride, check out our video review below to see what we thought.

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is a third person exploration and narrative heavy game set in the Life is Strange universe. Players will take on the role of Chris, living with his alcoholic but supportive father and what it’s like to live the life of this imaginative little boy on a Saturday afternoon. The game ties directly into Life is Strange 2 and is unfortunately very short, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Chris earned his own episodic tale. The game is full of content that pulls roughly at the heart and doesn’t let go – not that we would want it to.
