Greenskins The Greenskins are the easiest faction to understand but have a difficult campaign. You need to keep moving and fighting to keep your armies happy and you get free armies when you fight more often. This means you have to be extremely aggressive and puts a huge target on your back. However, there are ways around this. When you don’t have a clear objective, leave your army in enemy territory and continually raid and sack the same settlements. This keeps your enemies down and also lets you keep your army happy while you’re waiting for an upgrade or new unit type to become available. On the topic of upgrades, don’t forget to build a Goblin Tinkerer Bench as it is the only way to start developing technology. This should be done as early as possible so you can unlock the Arachnarok Spider, which is arguably the best unit in the game. Morale can be your downfall in any battle. Goblins and Trolls have very low leadership, so use them at your own risk. I personally only use Goblins as archers, which keeps them away from combat and less likely to succumb to cowardice, and I avoided Trolls entirely. Trolls are worthless and can easily be taken advantage of. The AI won’t take advantage of them but it won’t stop them from failing you. Giants are fantastic, though, so build the Troll Cave then wait to upgrade to The Stompin’ Groundz as early as possible. Orcs have some of the best infantry in the game so use them to overwhelm your enemies with the help of giant creatures and limited missile units.  Vampire Counts The Vampire Counts have a lot of unique unit types and combat strategies which make them extremely powerful as long as you understand their strengths. At first, their units will feel extremely weak as they have the worst basic infantry in the game and no missile or artillery units. While this can be challenging at first, you can eventually use your units to overwhelm the opponent. Invest time and money into only your best units, and you will find yourself rolling over most armies. Skeletons and zombies are horrendous, being both weak and slow, but they are also cheap. Combine that with the Vampire’s ability to raise the dead and you can fill the ranks of multiple armies in a single turn. Work these units to the bone, and replace or discard them as necessary. Focus on flying units as it is what the Vamps do best. The Forest building line should be the first you invest and build in. The Dire Wolves and Fell Bats from the first tier will help in flanking and killing archers in the early game. The second tier building unlocks the Vargheist, which will be your best archer-killer until the end of the game. The third tier of this building, in conjunction with the Vampire Crypt, unlocks the Vanghulf and Terrorgheist units. The Vanghulf is one of the best monster units in the gam,e having both regeneration and extremely high damage and the Terrorgheist is the single best flying unit in the game. Both can turn a battle around because the terror and high damage of those two units can allow them to finish off half the enemy army. There are other good options, but they are situational and likely to fail if you don’t micromanage them. Save Hexwraiths and Ghouls for later in the game or even a second play through when you’re more experienced.  Warriors of Chaos The Warriors of Chaos play exactly as you would expect. As Chaos, you are a pestilence sweeping over the land, you do not need settlements, you have almost no diplomacy options, and you crash over the land like a wave razing everything in your site. Play them like that and you will be fine. Your army is your settlement, so you have no need to stand still. This means you can raid and sack constantly without having to worry about defending your empire. However, having multiple armies near each other causes attrition, so you need to keep them separate as often as possible. It is best to keep your number of armies limited to one or two until the end of the campaign. Chaos has some of the best units in the game in multiple categories, so your army will usually have no problem winning one-on-one conflicts. There are many unit options for Chaos, but at the start, you should upgrade Marauders to Chosen Warriors and unlock the Dragon Ogre Gathering. There are multiple monster options and they all have benefits, but in most situations, Dragon Ogres are the best monster units and Dragon Ogre Shaggoths are the best giants. For killing individual units, Chaos Giants are better but they require a separate building line, which makes them less efficient. The Dragon Ogre line is a two for one that covers two separate fields. The rest of the buildings can be built over time to round out your army. Build the Unholy Furnace, then the Daemonic Forge. Forget about the chariot units, which like all other chariots in the game fail in most situations, and wait for the Hellcannon, a fantastic ranged unit which deals incredible damage to individual units. Lastly, as mentioned before, Trolls do nothing but let you down when you need them and Dragon Ogres are better in every way.  Final Notes Once you get the basic of your chosen faction, experiment with your unit types. I have listed some efficient strategies, but building the perfect army for you is a big part of Warhammer’s appeal. Who knows, you may even find a way to make the Trolls work!
