Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Synonymous with the genre, Leatherface is probably the most disturbing of the horror villains. Although there are a ton of asymmetrical online multiplayer games of famous franchises, this could be the best. As a member of the Slaughter family or its victims, your task is to hide or seek. It’s a thrilling concept that keeps you in a state of anxiousness which is perfect for the scary season.
The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR
Supermassive Games are masters of the genre. Each of their titles delves into oddities that dwell in horror to make you cringe and squirm. Although Switchback had a rocky start, patches have improved the visuals to make this a truly horrifying experience. With incredible use of eye-tracking, the game includes tight shooting mechanics and frightening segments throughout. One piece of advice: don’t blink.
The Walking Dead – Saints & Sinners Chapter 2: Retribution
The Walking Dead has had a slow decline over the years. While the first few seasons were great, over-saturation and deviation from the comics resulted in lackluster products. Barring the Telltale Series, they have also struggled to create strong games that capture the feeling of a zombie apocalypse, until now. Both of the Saints & Sinners titles are fantastic. The environment is your weapon, so get ready to stab, shoot and punch zombies in this thrilling VR experience.
Releasing This Month!
The month of October still has a few surprises up its sleeve. Here’s a glimpse of a few titles that you should consider for Halloween.
Hellboy: Web of Wyrd
The brash bloke from hell has a cult following. Del Toro’s classic films and Mignola’s legendary comics are considered highlights in their respective mediums. Although the recent reboot fell flat, the move to the interactive sector looks incredible. Mike’s signature art style permeates the game, bringing forth the unsettling atmosphere that resides in the comics.
The 7th Guest
Originally a point-and-click adventure, the 1993 adventure is making the transition to VR. Set in an eerie mansion, you must explore the environment, solve puzzles and work out the mysteries that lie within. The new perspective on a classic looks incredible. Combining live action with the virtual world is original and helps to build a creepy climate.
Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord
Every year, I watch Ghostbusters. It’s not scary but it captures the spirit of the season. The franchise has had its ups and downs with video games but Rise of the Ghost Lord could be the perfect release for the franchise. An issue many have when playing a game in the series is the lack of iconic characters, however, this deals with that issue. Rather than playing as a Ghostbuster, you are a Ghostbuster. Team up with some mates, track down menaces and get your proton pack ready.
Alan Wake 2
I never thought we’d see a sequel to Alan Wake. The first was riddled with development issues and the company had since moved on to new ideas. However, after unifying the words in Control, it became a possibility. Four years later and here we are. Alan Wake 2 is almost here and I’m confident in saying that this will be Remedy Entertainment’s magnum opus.
