The Best Video Game Releases this Month
Here we are ladies and gents! We’re three months out from E3 and it looks like things have slowed down a little when it comes to new video game releases. There’s a ton of games on the way but the big studios are all taking a bit of a break right now it seems. Of course, last month was one of the biggest months in a long time with some monster releases on top of the debut of the Nintendo Switch, so a small break is likely a welcome offering.
If you’re keeping track, some of last month’s massive releases included The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mass Effect Andromeda, Ghost Recon Wildlands, NieR: Automata, and MLB The Show 17. Chances are you’ve already got your hands full for games but hey, you’re here to see what April has in store, right? It may not be big for AAA releases (there are some) but there are some genuinely promising indies on the horizon so let’s get to it, shall we?
Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap – DotEmu – PS4, X1, Switch, PC (Apr 18)
If you’ve been gaming for a significant amount of time, say since the late 80’s, you probably know all about Wonder Boy. An absolute cult classic, the IP has been revived by French developer, Lizardcube and publisher DotEmu. This adventure platformer will see your hero take on six different forms (Man, Lizard, Mouse, Hawk, Piranha, and Lion) in his quest to cure himself of a curse placed on him by the nasty Meka-Dragon. Touting hectic, non-stop action alongside absolutely stunning hand drawn animation, Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap is definitely a game you should be watching for this month.
Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 – CI Games – PC, PS4, X1 (Apr 25)
Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 is an upcoming open world shooter from CI Games. Obviously, this is the third game in the franchise but it is the first to receive a AAA development budget and also the first to be an open world game. The first two games being a much more linear experience, Ghost Warrior 3 aims to provide a large, freely explorable world with tons of missions to complete at the player’s leisure. Join American Marine Captain Jon North as he travels overseas to Georgia to try and prevent another Cold War when SGW3 releases on April 25th!
Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom – Focus Home Interactive – PC, PS4, X1 (Apr 18)
Another indie gem that has kept us intrigued since its debut, Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom, prepares for its release on April 18th. An Action-RPG developed by French independent studio Enigami, it promises to take you on a journey through an enthralling universe on the verge of collapse with a fast-paced combat system and jaw dropping animation. Join Chado and his companions in this truly stunning adventure as they literally try to save the universe from utter destruction. Are you up to the task?
