8. Yakuza 0
Yakuza is back! The latest in the Yakuza series, “0” (previously released in Japan back in 2015) is actually a prequel taking place before the series initial appearance. Fans will take control of Kiryu and Majima as they are unleashed on a 1988 fictionalized version of Tokyo in this open world action adventure title. SEGA is promising some new combat features to gameplay and who can resist a game with that classic 80’s style? If you haven’t had a chance to experience the Yakuza series, this might be an excellent jumping off point. Yakuza 0 is a highly anticipated title we can’t wait for, and the good news is we won’t have to wait long.

7. Persona 5
Arguably one of the biggest and most popular RPG series in the PlayStation family, Persona returns with the fifth major entry in the series. Persona will see players controlling and acting out the lives and conflicts of high school students by day, and then using their fantastic supernatural abilities to enter the hearts of ordinary people in an effort to create a sort of “awakening”. It’s a title with some serious existential questions about society in general and yet it still comes across like any popular anime series with both its real world and fantastic problems. Persona has a diehard fan base and without a doubt Persona 5 is poised to take the series to the next level. This is absolutely a title to reserve a special spot on the shelf for and be prepared to get sucked in for endless hours.

6. Spider-Man
Spider-Man has had a rough couple of games in the past, never quite achieving its former glory as seen with Spider-Man 2 back in 2004. At 2016 E3 PlayStation Experience we were introduced to a delightful and unique new spidey-suit, some fantastic web-slinging footage, and seamless combat in buildings. Information on the game has been somewhat scarce since then and to be honest, we are cheating a little by adding it to this list as it does not officially have a 2017 release date yet, but how could we let this one slip the list? The wallcrawler looks absolutely fantastic in his latest outing and it’s hard to imagine Insomniac isn’t chomping at the bit to give us their take on the webhead. Spider-Man looks to finally redeem the series and offer us a game truly worthy of your friendly neighbourhood You Know Who, so forgive us for being excited and offering this game a spot on the list.

5. Gravity Rush 2
Sometimes all you need for a successful game is a gimmick, something unique to build off of that hasn’t been done before. Sometimes it’s something small, a particular weapon or ability the hero has that is unique to them. And then we come to Kat from Gravity Rush where someone just decided gravity, one of the basic laws of physics, doesn’t really need to matter in a video game. Gravity Rush 2 will see the return of Kat as she tries to learn the mystery of her origin and throw her into a whole new potentially universe-ending situation. Gravity Rush felt like a sleeper hit, the game no one was talking about, but it has been praised across the board and we cannot wait to see what JAPAN Studio and SIEA have in store for us. Hold onto your seats because gravity is optional.
