The Bad

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered is really just for people with nostalgic love for the original games. It’s a collection of two remastered platform adventure games from the first two PlayStations about a soul-sucking vampire that travels between light and dark worlds. The combat is clunky, the environments are empty, and the pacing is awful by modern standards. Our reviewer concluded “Perhaps there’s some essential flavor that nostalgia adds to the soup, but I’m sadly missing it”. As a fan of the original game, I’m sad to see Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered in The Bad section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games January 2025.

Planet Coaster 2: Thrill Seekers Ride Pack DLC

Planet Coaster 2 released in a buggy state, and still feels unfinished. It’s first paid DLC, Planet Coaster 2: Thrill Seekers Ride Pack, adds 2 new coasters and 3 flat rides for $9.99. That’s it. The original Planet Coaster’s DLC packs were much more generous. This update has some bug fixes, but doesn’t fix all of them. Our reviewer had the thought “the handful of new rides should have been free, a token of appreciation for consumers patiently playing through the game’s early issues”. This bad will Planet Coaster 2 has earned makes the Thrill Seekers Ride Pack DLC an easy inclusion in The Bad section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games January 2025.

W.A.N.D. Project

W.A.N.D. Project is top-down action roguelike. It’s a Vampire Survivors clone that adds spell crafting. Aside from that, it doesn’t have many special elements going for it. Everything is fine, but there’s nothing about the gameplay loop or narrative that captivated our reviewer enough to keep playing. W.A.N.D. Project is also lacking in content. Our reviewer wrote “at this point it still [feels] a bit like an Early Access title”. This level of blandness leads to easy inclusion in The Bad section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games January 2025.
