3 Up, 3 Down – April 2025
April 2025 was a slower month for video game releases, so a lot of the games in this article flew under the radar. But months like April 2025 make for more interesting/ less obvious reading. The highest scoring game of the month was The Last of Us Part II Remastered for PC, but we’ve already covered it for PS5, so we’re going to give some new releases a chance to shine. Forza Horizon 5 also scored incredibly well, but is a fairly straightforward port of its Xbox version. Here are The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games April 2025:
The Good
Blue Prince

Blue Prince came out of nowhere and is the best reviewed game of 2025 according to Metacritic! It’s a first-person puzzle adventure game, with roguelike mechanics. The protagonist has one day to find a hidden room in a mansion, in order to inherit it. Our reviewer was blown away, and concluded “I expect to see more games coming in a similar mold over the next few years”. Blue Prince has a gameplay formula that may transform the industry, and that caliber of game has to be in The Good section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games April 2025.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is a 2D fighting game, and the first game in the Fatal Fury series since 1999! Developer SNK didn’t phone in this series revival. Our reviewer wrote “Every mechanic is meticulously crafted, resulting in a deep, multilayered fighter. The systems in place encourage strategic thinking and quick adaptation, making each battle feel like a thoughtful, tactical encounter”. This new big dog in the modern fighting game scene was an easy inclusion in The Good section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games April 2025.
The Talos Principle: Reawakened

The Talos Principle: Reawakened is the second first-person puzzle adventure game in The Good section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games April 2025. It’s a remaster of the genre classic from 2014. For those who haven’t played, it has similar mysterious, cryptic vibes to the Myst series. Our reviewer wrote “The Talos Principal: Reawakened combines a thoughtful narrative premise with clever and often extremely challenging puzzles. The new version adds some quality-of-life features, new content, and an editor in concert with beautifully updated graphics”. What more could a player ask for?
The Bad
Gorn 2
Gorn 2 is a violent VR game, where players fight waves of enemies, followed by a boss. This sequel improves upon its predecessor in almost every way, but the gameplay formula remains pretty bland. And it has too many bugs. Our reviewer praised “The first game’s way-over-the-top stylized violence and gore transfer intact, along with its goofy sense of satire”. Gorn 2 scored 69, which isn’t bad, but still low enough to be mentioned in The Bad section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games April 2025.
Monster Energy Supercross 25

Monster Energy Supercross 25 is a motocross racing game. It has a major visual upgrade over past games in the series, but its gameplay is largely the same. The game’s learning curve is also too steep, and its online experience has connectivity and lag issues. Our reviewer concluded that Monster Energy Supercross 25 “is a competent but unspectacular entry in the series”. In the case of Monster Energy Supercross 25, a mid game ends up in The Bad section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games April 2025.
Rusty Rabbit

Rusty Rabbit is a 2D Metroidvania about a rabbit piloting a mech. It doesn’t do anything especially poorly, or anything especially well. Our reviewer wrote “The combat lacks impact, the gameplay loop quickly becomes formulaic, and the visuals feel dated, all of which contribute to an experience that, while occasionally enjoyable, ultimately feels uninspired and forgettable”. Rusty Rabbit just doesn’t do enough to set itself apart from a sea of 2D action adventure games, which plants in squarely in The Bad section of The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games April 2025.
