The Bad
Curse of the Sea Rats

Curse of the Sea Rats looks fantastic upon first glance. It’s local multiplayer Metroidvania, that looks like an 80s Don Bluth cartoon. But upon playing it, it becomes obvious pretty quickly that those are the game’s only unique qualities. The gameplay is very bland, and too unresponsive. None of the powerups are interesting, or gameplay altering. Our reviewer noted if “there wasn’t a multiplayer option the score would be a lot lower”. Curse of the Sea Rats is the lowest scoring title on The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from April 2023.
EA Sports PGA Tour

There was a great sports sim featured in The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from April 2023. And now we have a poor one. EA Sports PGA Tour is gorgeous. Other than that, it’s a choppy, unfun golf experience. Aiming is a chore, and menus take an incredible amount of time to scroll through. Our reviewer wrote “I find myself as disappointed as Bart Simpson was when he got Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge for Christmas”. EA clearly needs to add a little more Bonestorm to their golf sim.
Minecraft Legends

Minecraft Legends is an action strategy game that turned out to be really repetitive. The only two scenarios the game offers are protecting villages and defending bases. Building materials are too scarce, and the inventory management is way too complicated and boring. Our reviewer noted “I have three young Minecraft enthusiasts living here, and neither of them were interested beyond the first couple hours”. What was the intended audience for Minecraft Legends? It’s the biggest disappointment of the month, and easily earns a spot on The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from April 2023.
