Final Fantasy VII Remake
There’s never been a more anticipated remake than Square Enix’s upcoming PS4 version of Final Fantasy VII, so maybe it’s not surprising that news has been light. There’s a lot riding on this project for the Japanese publisher, and it’ll end up being a gigantic hit if it can live up to the hype. Since the game didn’t have an E3 2016 presence, it can’t afford to go two years without being on the biggest stage for games. Gamers are eager to see more of the redone Gaia, and yet another absent year would only serve to spread doubt and fear among Final Fantasy fanatics.
Shenmue III
In 2015, Sony helped debut a Kickstarter for a sequel to the legendary Shenmue franchise. After raising a crazy amount of dough (a cool $6,333,295 for those counting), the game entered active development. Not a ton has been revealed about the Yu Suzuki directed title so far, and fans online are increasingly starting to doubt that it’ll hit its target release date of December 2017. That’s a major blow to the poster child of Sony’s #BuildingTheList initiative, but some much needed communication at E3 could go a long way towards smoothing over any potential fan frustration. If a delay is imminent, it’d be smart for Sony and Sega to announce the heavily rumored remastered versions of the first two Shenmue games at E3 2017.
Death Stranding
It’s been nearly one year since Sony announced they were publishing Hideo Kojima’s first game since leaving Konami, and the result of his creative madness is called Death Stranding. Past trailers have featured Norman Reedus holding a baby, and Mads Mikkelsen having no idea what he was doing. Kojima isn’t one to rush his projects, though, which means that the game was likely announced several years before players will get a release date. So far, players have no clue how Death Stranding will play, let alone what is going on with the game’s plot. Will any of this become clearer at E3? If the prior trailers are anything to go by, probably not, but Sony needs to continue pushing the game now that they’ve let the genie out of the bottle.
