The Workshops
Throughout the event, there was a boatload of amazing workshops with some awesome guests. Bill Doran of Punished Props lead a workshop with his wife Brittany (see the image below of Brittany showcasing her work) about a beginners guide to making props and cosplay. Aaron Harrison, who makes props for shows like Arrow, was on hand to provide a workshop on building props. Allisa Swanson, who is the costume designer for The 100, hosted a workshop on costumes. Voice actor Erin Fitzgerald provided a workshop on voice acting. Who would have thought you could learn so much at a FanCon?
Game Quest Arcade
The team at Game Quest (Prince George, BC) brought a whole slew of classic arcade games for attendees to enjoy. Added bonus: they were all free to play! They set up some TV’s for some classic console gaming and an area for board games and role playing games. They brought some merchandise and used games to sell to attendees. But the best part – they hooked a Super Nintendo up to a projector and let attendees play Super Mario Kart on the very big screen! Be sure to give them a visit at their Facebook page.
Volunteers and Event Staff
Last but not least, we take a moment to acknowledge the volunteers and event staff. Make no mistake, events like Northern FanCon 2017 don’t just happen with magic – it takes a huge team to put it together! The event staff and volunteers, lead by event director Norm Coyne, did an amazing job putting this show together. The event was organized and well spaced out, making excellent use of both arenas at the CN Centre. The staff were friendly and accommodating. If you’re one of those event staff or volunteers – take a moment to pat yourself on the back, you helped make Northern FanCon 2017 great!
