3 Best, 3 Worst and 3 Cringy Moments from The Game Awards 2016

The Worst

1) A DLC Won Best RPG?

Witcher 3 DLC Blood & Wine took all of the glory in the Best RPG category, yet the award should honor full RPG games. All of the other nominees were full games: Dark Souls 3, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, World of Warcraft: Legion, and Xenoblade Chronicles X and all have received tremendous amounts of love from the fans. Now, I’m not saying that Blood & Wine is unworthy of an award as it is a fantastic expansion of last year’s Game Of The Year award winner, however maybe it should have been placed in a separate ‘Best Expansion’ category. In fact, why isn’t there already a separate DLC category?

2) A Couple of the Awards Were Not Given Their Moment on the Show

Even though all of the award winners were announced throughout the ceremony, there were a few categories, such as Best VR Game and Best Fighting Game, that were announced without a proper introduction or a display of the nominees. Some of these were announced during the full show, while a few others were simply announced during the pre-show. It’s understandable that not all awards can be as big as GOTY, but each category should at least be given a proper introduction during the full show. These award winner announcements, among others, felt undercooked, and brushed aside. Each category deserves to be announced with the list of nominees displayed and shown the proper respect they deserve!

3) The Other Musical Acts

In the time that we could have had more awards announced, we were given music performances that just didn’t sound that great. The DOOM music was awesome, but the other sets just weren’t very exciting to watch. They didn’t fit very well with the show at all, maybe because they had nothing to do with the gaming industry, and the performances were muffled. It could just have been some faulty microphones, but the sound kept cutting in and out, making the music sets subpar.
