Fallout 4 – Rumors, Speculation and What We Actually Know

If you’ve been anywhere near an internet enabled device in the past few days you’ve no doubt heard that Fallout 4 is officially announced. Thank Atom, because I got the feeling that someone was going to blow a nuke out of sheer frustration if it wasn’t announced soon.

Now that we’ve all caught our collective breath I’d like to take a moment to dissect some interesting stuff that a user posted on Reddit 11 months ago. She went by the name of “SandraReed” and claimed to be an ex-employee at Bethesda Game Studios in Maryland. She claims they fired her for releasing confidential information. In an act of revenge she went on to leak quite a bit of information about Fallout 4. Now, it’s worth mentioning that with some investigation it has been found that no Sandra Reed ever worked at BGS but seeing as how some of these so-called predictions have (kind of) come to fruition it’s still worth taking a look into and that’s what I’d like to talk about.

Oh boy. When you process all this it sure sounds far fetched, right? I think so too. But, as noted above, some of her predictions have proven true(ish) so I don’t think they’re worth discounting just yet. That said, take the upcoming information with a grain of salt; a highly irradiated grain of salt.

Potential Spoilers Ahead…

Here’s what she got right:

1 – June 2015 Fallout 4 reveal at E3, trailer only

Ok, so JUST before E3 but close enough. Pretty good guess right? Totally. I’m willing to accept that it was just that, a good guess. Let’s move on.

2 – “…the player character will finally talk, and narrate his storyline”

If the trailer is to be believed then it appears that she was right about this too. Which seems a bit specific if you ask me. This also goes against the big story driven RPGs that Bethesda makes. Their main characters generally don’t narrate. Really good guess.

3 – “Fallout 4 is set in and around Boston and the surrounding countryside.”

I think this speculation was floating around before Sandra made her post, which saps it of some credibility. Man, if nothing else I’ve learned that rumor timelines are hard to figure out. Admittedly this evidence for the leaks being true is pretty flimsy, but let’s not discount them yet. She made some other bold predictions for the upcoming months. I say, if those prove false then we can go after her with pitchforks and murder her (don’t actually murder her).

Here are some of her other predictions:

  • July 2015 First gameplay trailers.
  • You can only play as a male.
  • The world map is 3 times the size of Skyrim.
  • Three Dog will make a return.
  • A PS3 and Xbox 360 version is in the works also.
  • An October 2015 release date.

Okay, so my way of seeing it is that we should wait until July for the first gameplay trailer. If that part of the leak ends up being true we can put some more credibility in the rest of the predictions. Some of that other stuff is hard to believe though.

You can only play as a male? That might be the first time Bethesda has forced a sex choice on the player.

A last-gen version is being made along side the current gen? Not sure about that…

October release date? That’s four months from now. Seems like an unusually quick turnaround from announcement to release. Retailers have recently posted 2015 release dates for the game though, and the last two Fallouts did release in October.

I’ll just say, all those other rumors could be false and I wouldn’t care, as long as Three Dog returns.

You can read the prediction thread for yourself here and decide for yourself. Pure hoax? Some credibility? Give us your thoughts in the comments section.
