5 Ways Dragon Quest XI Prepared for The West

3. First-Person Camera

A lot of games these days have photo modes. While Dragon Quest XI does not, its added first-person camera option when coupled with its option to hide the heads-up display can act as a makeshift photo mode for those inclined. While photo modes are not my cup of tea, they can result in some great visuals. Though Dragon Quest XI does not have a photo-realistic graphical style, it still has a wonderful art style that can be taken advantage of with the first-person camera.

4. Hard Mode

Player choice is an important aspect of many games, and while some games only have one difficulty option available, no one really complains about having the choice to play through greater or lesser difficulty. Dragon Quest XI has an additional hard mode for players, so if you feel that the game is too easy, or just enjoy a healthy challenge, Dragon Quest XI has you covered.

5. Traditional Turn-Based Battle System

Many JRPGs have moved from more traditional turn-based battle systems to more action-oriented gameplay, such as Final Fantasy XV, Ni no Kuni II, and the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake. While the traditional turn-based battle system is not a new feature for Dragon Quest XI’s arrival in the West, this battle system helps to retain the series’ roots alongside its graphical charm, familiar enemies, and other common elements. By maintaining this system in its latest iteration, Dragon Quest XI is poised to perhaps reach the series’ largest audience worldwide with this release.

Dragon Quest XI is set to release worldwide on the PS4 and PC on September 4, 2018.
