3 – Awesome Backstory and Characters
With Eternals from currently four different genres (Horror, Superhero, Sci-Fi, and Westerns), players will have an ever-expanding roster to choose from. In addition to the retro-inspired characters, the game itself is a homage to those old school board games, with the backstory being that the player enters the game of The Amazing Eternals through the Keystone and assumes the identity of one of the Eternals. With this inspired aesthetic and setting, The Amazing Eternals feels familiar and new at the same time, especially in a time when contemporary works such as Stranger Things are ultra popular.
4 – Pathfinder
When it comes to games of this genre and progression, there is often a standard or randomness when achievements are met. Fortunately, The Amazing Eternals, taking place on a board game, allows players to see their progression and the rewards that come with it. In addition to that, the board game progression will also allow for the branching of paths, giving players the freedom to choose what rewards they want to receive and how they want to progress. Although there are no problems with the typical “level up, receive a loot box/pack” method, The Amazing Eternals provides an upgraded version of that model, putting the choice in player hands.
5 – Expect the Unexpected
My favorite aspect of the game is that you never know what to expect with other players. A player can be playing as Nautica, typically a support character, though she can be specced out to be a more offensive role. In doing so, Nautica may be less effective as a damage dealer, but she can definitely catch a few players looking for an easy kill. With this aspect of the game, the Eternals are not strictly bound to any predetermined role, and players can play with who they want, how they want. With Ray, for example, players can focus specifically on his jet pack, and spend the whole match flying around rather than focusing on his turret skills for example. I am looking forward to trying out various combinations and seeing what the community comes up with!
