The Hate List
Slow Gameplay
I will not pull any punches when it comes to 3on3 Freestyle, the game plays and feels very sluggish. Some characters have abilities to move faster, and there are occasional bursts of speed, but most characters move very slowly even with the sprint trigger held down. For a street basketball game, it honestly felt very slow, as if this were a mobile game being played with a controller.
No Special Skills
Each character has their own skills and abilities. However, there are no “gamebreaking” skills or power-ups in the game. Although this was never advertised, it was still somewhat disappointing that given that dunks and even regular scoring can be rare unless you utilize the same tactics again and again (or are more skilled than myself and my opponents). When combined with the slow gameplay, I almost wish that the game incorporated at least one of either faster gameplay or more special skills.
Duplicate Players
Although not particularly a “hate” of the game, but a couple situations did occur in the game that were more annoying than impactful. The first situation was in a one-on-one game, where my opponent and I both had teams having the exact same players. Annoying but understandable given we can’t see who selects who. However, in an online three-on-three game, my teammates and I (who are able to switch characters mid-game between points) all happened to switch to the same character. Like I said, this was merely annoying, but I feel as though I would have enjoyed having a team of unique characters rather than the same three.
