The 3 Best and 3 Worst Games from February 2017

3 Up, 3 Down – The Best and Worst From February 2017

I had no idea just how good the month of February was until I started researching for this article. The three games we feature for our best of the month all scored a 95 or higher. I don’t ever recall a month where we scored three games that high. This should not be entirely surprising as this is the second consecutive February which delivered amazing games. This time last year XCOM 2, Street Fighter V and The Witness all blew us away. So here we are again with another month in the books and just like last year it was unquestionably a great month for the industry. Yet, we also saw a few games that not only disappointed but put themselves as front runners for our Skid Row Tire Fire awards. Without wasting any more time, let’s take a look at the best (3 Up) and worst games (3 Down) from the past month as we move closer to Spring Break.

The Best

Horizon Zero Dawn

This was an easy pick. If you checked out our Horizon Zero Dawn review, you can see exactly why this is not only the best game from February 2017 but is leading the pack for Game of the Year, by a long shot. This stunning open world beauty is Guerrilla Games’ crowning achievement in video game development. Sure, Killzone is a rock solid franchise, but Horizon is on a whole new level. I am not convinced it is the best game on the PS4 but it’s easily neck and neck with Uncharted 4 and I would not argue with anyone who claimed it was the best.

Halo Wars 2

I am not entirely surprised Halo Wars 2 made our list but I am surprised just how much everyone is loving it so far. Combining two massive development teams is never an easy task but in Halo Wars 2’s case, it was the perfect formula. The game delivers a superb story and the gameplay is not only inviting to new players but to those who played the first game as well. Its return to the classic art style is merely the icing on the cake. Halo Wars 2 delivers on all aspects and needless to say the future is bright for the RTS spinoff.

Nioh

Before Horizon Zero Dawn came along, Nioh was the undisputed best PS4 exclusive of this young year. Yes it was that good, receiving a 95 from our man Rory who said: “Nioh is an incredible action RPG game that should not be missed. Offering well balanced and visceral combat, engaging environments to explore, challenging bosses and well over 80 hours of exciting content to enjoy.”
