10 Movies You Must See in 2020

Tenet (July 17)

This is a real case of having all the info I need. Chris Nolan has a new movie coming on July 17th. Okay, great! Here’s my money, wheres my ticket? Oh, there’s a trailer now? I mean, I’ll watch it but my ticket is already bought. It’s an incredible mindfuck of a trailer and setting the stage for one of the best thrillers we’ve had in years? Well, excellent! You still have my money though.

The Eternals (Nov 6)

eternals movie 2020

We come again to the Marvel-verse and we’re now entering into Kevin Fiege making his weird shit. Post Endgame, we all knew Marvel was gonna get weird after that D23 conference and this is the start of it. One of the more obscure Marvel ‘teams’, the Eternals helped shape the Earth as we know it as immortal beings, so what this movie is gonna be about is confusing.

I’m all for diving deep into the Marvel back catalogue for crazy and cool stories and I have complete confidence that the immaculate Marvel slate will continue unabated. The only thing that Marvel faces as a brand is rallying the common audience around the more obscure titles they have in the vault. Now you may commence with talking about shirtless Kumail Nanjiani.

Dune (December 18)

Dune is notoriously impossible to adapt. They tried back in the 80’s and David Lynch did his damndest but with the limited budget and limited special effects, Lynch’s bizarre take on the novels didn’t end up very well. Even the legendary Alejandro Jodorowsky was front and center for a documentary about how he would have made an absolute batshit crazy Dune, but his ideas were hindered by the studio as well as the same reasons that hindered Lynch. But wait! It’s 2020 and special effects have come a long way and studios are willing to sink a TON of money into a franchise, so here we go again. Will this endeavor be any better though?

Well, Denis Villeneuve is helming this bad boy so that’s already great. His work in the last 5 years, including turning Blade Runner 2049 into an instant classic, has been magnificent. Couple that with a cast that includes (let me take a deep breath here) Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isacc, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgard, and Charlotte Rampling, just to name a few. And I’m willing to bet my pinkie toe that this adaptation of Dune isn’t going to turn out like the rest and is going to crush it when it finally sees the light of day.

HONORABLE MENTION – Bad Boys for Life (Jan 17)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M

Oh, you think that a Michael Bay-less Bad Boys is going to not make my list? That was a mistake on your part. Does anyone dare to tell me that the first two Bad Boys are not some of the best/worst movies that they’ve ever seen? ‘Cause I will fight anyone and everyone on this. Bad Boys 2 is on the top 5 of the biggest and shittiest action films ever made and I’ve rewatched it so many times it’s almost silly.

As long as these random guys who got hired to direct just emulate Bay’s style and let Smith and Lawrence do their thing this is going to be pure fire. Just let me see a lot of shit blow up in absurd fashion, let the Boys sing the song, and have a couple of sick car chases; this is going to be amazing. Don’t get me wrong, it’ll be awful, but the best kind of awful.
