Save the World From Darkness in Archetype Blue
Archetype Blue, an upcoming indie RPG from Korean developer Codename Bom, has officially released a free demo on Steam, giving players an early chance to experience its unique mix of classic JRPG storytelling and strategic deckbuilding combat.
The game follows Mary, a young girl who inherits the name of the legendary knight Lancelot. She sets out on a journey through a world that is gradually being consumed by darkness. As it unfolds, players will explore a pixel art fantasy world filled with memorable characters, dangerous encounters, and emotional moments.

One of Archetype Blue’s standout features is its companion system. Throughout the adventure, Mary can recruit more than 50 companions, each offering unique interactions and gameplay benefits. Strengthening these relationships unlocks new cards, allowing players to customize their decks based on the allies they choose to fight alongside. This creates a progression system where character bonds are just as important as combat strategy.
Combat blends tactical deckbuilding with traditional RPG mechanics. Party composition, character positioning, and the relationships built with companions all play an important role in determining the outcome of battles. Rather than relying solely on powerful cards, players will need to carefully plan their strategies and make the most of their team’s strengths.
Visually, Archetype Blue embraces a nostalgic pixel art style while delivering a darker fantasy setting inspired by classic Japanese RPGs. Combined with its story-driven approach and card-based battles, the game aims to offer a fresh take on both genres.
With its Steam demo now available, fans of JRPGs and deckbuilding adventures can dive into the game right now.
