Ballistic Moon Has Reportedly Ceased Operations
Ballistic Moon, the studio behind the 2024 remake of Until Dawn, has officially shut down after authorities dissolved the company earlier this year.
Production director Duncan Kershaw, creative director Neil McEwan, and technology director Chris Lamb founded Ballistic Moon in 2020. The studio set out to develop narrative-driven games and quickly began work on its first major project, a remake of Supermassive Games’ 2015 horror title Until Dawn. The remake launched in 2024 for PS5 and PC.

The updated version introduced improved graphics and added several new scenes to expand the original experience. Many players appreciated the visual upgrades and the attempt to modernize the game for newer hardware. However, the remake also drew criticism after launch. Some players reported performance issues, while others felt the $60 price did not offer enough additional content compared to the original PS4 release.
Ballistic Moon had already started facing difficulties before the game arrived. In September 2024, just a month before the remake launched, the studio announced major layoffs. In a statement at the time, the company explained that the cuts would help it navigate the difficult conditions affecting the wider games industry.
Those measures ultimately failed to secure the studio’s future. In November 2025, a request was submitted to remove Ballistic Moon from the UK Companies House register. A notice later published in The Gazette confirmed that officials struck the company off the register on January 21 and formally dissolved it on February 3.
The Until Dawn remake earned a Metacritic score of 70 and a user score of 6.8. On Steam, players responded more positively, with 81 percent of user reviews rating the game favorably.
Last year also saw the release of an Until Dawn movie set in the same universe as the game. The film used a time loop premise and received a Rotten Tomatoes score of 52 percent alongside a 66 percent audience score.
