City States: Medieval Demo Builds Its Way to Steam

Lead Your People in City States: Medieval

Fans of RTS and grand strategy can dive in now, as The City States: Medieval demo goes live on Steam. Developed by Reverie World Studios and published in partnership with indie.io, the demo offers a guided introduction to a rich medieval strategy experience built around long-term planning, political influence, and meaningful choices.

City States: Medieval blends grand strategy with RTS elements, challenging players to lead ambitious medieval city-states across a dynamic world. Power comes not from brute force alone, but through carefully managed trade networks, shrewd diplomacy, and well-timed military campaigns. Players must balance internal stability with external ambition while reacting to evolving threats at home and abroad.

At the heart of the experience is a single Hero who serves as both ruler and strategic focal point. This Hero actively shapes gameplay through their physical presence. When stationed in a city, players gain direct real-time control, allowing rapid construction, hands-on defense, and precise army command. When the Hero ventures into the wider world, the city continues to operate on the strategic map, though at a slower pace, with conflicts resolved at a higher level.

This system creates a constant strategic tension. Keeping the Hero at home strengthens infrastructure and defenses, while sending them abroad unlocks expansion, diplomacy, and conquest. As the Hero levels up and gains new abilities, their growing influence forces players to continually reassess priorities and positioning.

The demo draws from one of the game’s three full campaigns, placing players at the start of the Republic of Genoa storyline. Spanning roughly 3.5 to 4 hours, it takes players from Italy to the Holy Land, introducing diverse cultures, political systems, and interconnected economic and military mechanics. With the full campaign planned to last 25–30 hours, the demo delivers a substantial and representative taste of the complete experience.
