Get Ready to Cook in Appetite of the Abyss
Mighty Tide Games has announced Appetite of the Abyss, an upcoming PC title headed to Steam that blends survival strategy, roguelite progression, and experimental cooking into a single, high-stakes experience. In the game, players must satisfy the hunger of a mysterious abyssal creature to prevent it from turning its wrath on a vulnerable village, with every run presenting new challenges and consequences.
The gameplay revolves around a card-based building system where players construct temporary structures using a limited deck. These buildings consume shared resources, take up valuable space, and expire after producing a set output, ensuring that strategies must constantly evolve rather than rely on permanent setups.
Cooking plays a central role, but success depends more on preparation and decision-making than quick reactions. Meals are shaped by how they are made. The chopping techniques, heat control, and stirring styles all influence the final result. Creatures possess hidden preferences that are never explicitly explained, meaning players must learn through trial, feedback, and sometimes costly mistakes.
Each run introduces a different monster with unique behaviors, hunger decay rates, and tolerance for failure. Missteps can provoke varying reactions, forcing players to adapt their approach and rethink priorities every time they play.
Players also choose between forecasted paths that hint at future threats such as raids, environmental hazards, or special events. These decisions allow for careful planning or bold risk-taking in pursuit of greater rewards.
Progress continues between runs through Monster’s Gold, which unlocks permanent upgrades like new cards, enhanced cooking options, and deeper monster interactions. Appetite of the Abyss is currently in development for PC and is available to wishlist now on Steam.
