A Disastrous Expedition Awaits in Primal Reign
The Games Shed has unveiled a new public demo for Primal Reign: The Age of New Kings for SteamVR. The game presents a cinematic VR action adventure that blends the chaos of World War II with ancient Egyptian horror. The demo places players in the middle of a violent desert firefight before drawing them into a buried world where history and something prehistoric collide.

Set during a failed WWII expedition in Egypt, the experience begins at the entrance of a desert tomb as enemy forces attack from all sides. Artillery fire tears through the sand, bullets fly overhead, and survival depends on escaping the battlefield. Players retreat into the tomb, leaving open warfare behind and stepping into narrow corridors filled with darkness, dust, and an unsettling sense of awakening danger.
As players descend deeper, the demo shifts its focus from military conflict to supernatural terror. Ancient symbols carved into the stone suggest forbidden knowledge, while the air grows heavier with each step. The dead rise as mummified guardians, forcing players to fight for survival in close, oppressive spaces. Exploration becomes tense and deliberate, with every movement carrying risk as a powerful force stirs beneath the ruins.
Graham Jones, Director at The Games Shed, explains that Primal Reign deliberately subverts expectations. The demo lures players in with familiar war imagery, then strips it away to reveal a far darker reality rooted in ancient myths and living tombs.
The demo builds toward a major sequence titled “Power Source.” Deep within the chambers, Von Stahl pursues the player as chaos erupts. A tank is dragged into a rising acid-filled chamber, ancient guardians clash with foreign machinery, and a mysterious portal system begins to activate, hinting at forces that humanity was never meant to control.
