Esophaguys Just Received ‘The Neckening Update’ on All Platforms

So Many New Features Await in Esophaguys

The Esophaguys team has released The Neckening Update for Esophaguys across Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Steam. This update strengthens competitive play while introducing wide-ranging quality of life improvements, alongside notable visual and audio refinements.

At the core of the update is the evolution of Masochist mode, which now includes global online leaderboards. Players can track speedrun records, set personal best times, and directly compare performances with friends. This addition reshapes the punishing roguelike structure into a long-term competitive space built entirely around precision, endurance, and neck-based physics.

The update fully unlocks four-player co-operative play and introduces dedicated co-op levels designed for group sessions. These stages focus on shared objectives, coordinated movement, and chaotic energy, with electric chaining mechanics created exclusively for multiplayer environments.

The team has also refined several gameplay systems. A completely reworked camera removes jitter and improves responsiveness. Character animations feel more fluid, minigame scoring now includes celebratory visual effects, and hub interactions such as orb and gnome deposits deliver clearer visual feedback. Expanded customization adds new emotes and adjustable neck length settings, while a redesigned onboarding menu helps new players understand the game’s core mechanics.

Audio design stands out as a defining feature of the update as well. Nearly 4,500 mouth recordings of sound effects now shape the game’s soundscape, with unique vocalizations for characters such as gnomes, whales, chickens, Travneck, and hub elements. Competitive minigames have also received improved music mixing, refining the signature jews harp and banjo combinations.

Alongside these additions, the update includes a broad range of bug fixes and design adjustments, ensuring a smoother and more polished experience overall.
