007 First Light Delayed by Two Months, New Release Date Confirmed

007 First Light Will Now Launch in May 2026

IO Interactive has announced a two-month delay for 007 First Light, its upcoming James Bond game and the studio’s first original Bond title. The game will now launch on 27th May 2026, moving from its previously planned release date of 27th March.

The update was shared through a statement on social media by IO Interactive CEO Hakan Arbak, who described 007 First Light as the studio’s most ambitious project so far. He explained that “this decision allows us to ensure the experience meets the level of quality you players deserve day one.”

According to Arbak, development on the game is progressing smoothly. 007 First Light is already playable from beginning to end, indicating that the core structure and systems are firmly in place. He said the additional development time will “allow us to further polish and refine the experience”. You can take a look at the full statement below:

007 First Light statement IO Interactive

IO Interactive is popular for its work on the Hitman series, and 007 First Light marks a major step forward for the studio. The game aims to deliver a fresh take on James Bond by focusing on a younger version of the iconic spy and telling an original story created specifically for the interactive medium.

The delay announcement follows closely after the game’s latest trailer reveal at The Game Awards 2025. That trailer introduced audiences to Bawma, a new character portrayed by musician Lenny Kravitz. Earlier this month, the team also shared their first developer diary called ‘Beyond the Light Episode 1′. It showcased the gameplay as well as the reimagined origin for James Bond.

While the delay may disappoint fans eager to step into Bond’s shoes, IO Interactive’s statement suggests the extra time will help in delivering a more refined and complete experience at launch.
