A New Narrative Arc Is Coming to Frosthaven
Arc Games and Snapshot Games have announced Awakening Protocol, the first major Early Access content update for Frosthaven, set to launch for free on October 23 through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Following the recent mini campaign, The Road to Frosthaven, developed in collaboration with Frosthaven board game creator Isaac Childres, this update marks a significant expansion for the digital adaptation of the acclaimed tabletop experience.
Developed by Snapshot Games under CEO Julian Gollop, known for creating XCOM, and supported by Isaac Childres as a consultant, Frosthaven continues to merge strategic depth with immersive storytelling. Awakening Protocol introduces a fresh narrative arc set within the ruins of an ancient civilization. Once forged for service and long forgotten, the mechanical faction known as the Unfettered has awakened under the command of a mysterious leader, threatening the fragile world of Frosthaven. Players must face this uprising and shape the settlement’s fate through their decisions and actions.
The update brings a wealth of new content, including three new playable heroes with distinct playstyles, over eighteen new quests, and five formidable bosses designed to test strategy and endurance. Players can enhance their settlement with the addition of the Town Hall and eight new building upgrades, while more than forty new items expand combat and crafting possibilities. The new challenge system introduces optional objectives for players seeking higher rewards, and job postings from the Town Hall open fresh side quests to strengthen their party.
Frosthaven Awakening Protocol will also be showcased at SPIEL Essen 2025, where attendees can experience a demo and exclusive merchandise at Cephalofair Games’ booth.
