Nintendo Switch 2 Receives First Post-launch Update, Version 20.1.5

More Stability for Switch 2

Nintendo has released the first firmware update for the Switch 2 since its global launch on June 5. The update brings the system software to version 20.1.5. While the patch notes are typically brief, Nintendo states that the update provides “general system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.” However, there are no additional features or fixes mentioned.

The update should install automatically once the Switch 2 connects to the internet. Those who prefer to update manually can do so through the System Settings menu by selecting the System Update option on the home screen.

Nintendo Switch 2 Review

This marks the first firmware revision since the system’s significant day one update on June 4, which introduced several key features. That earlier update added GameChat and GameShare functionalities, as well as support for backward compatibility with Switch 1 titles, a major selling point for early adopters.

Since its launch, the Switch 2 has seen a remarkably strong start, with 3.5 million units sold globally within its first four days. Its momentum has been bolstered by the success of its flagship launch title, Mario Kart World. According to early sales data, nearly 79% of Switch 2 owners have picked up the racing game, either bundled with the console or purchased separately.

Although this latest update may not include new features, it signals Nintendo’s ongoing commitment to refining the system as its user base grows. Players can likely expect more detailed updates in the months ahead as the console’s ecosystem expands.
