PS5 Pro – 3 Things I Love (And Hate) About Sony’s New Console

3 Things I Love (And Hate) About The PS5 Pro

The PS5 Pro has officially hit the shelves, and I’ve only had my hands on one for a couple of days. My full review will arrive later, but I have some early thoughts on this beast of a console. My hot takes aside, there’s no doubt it’s a powerhouse loaded with impressive new features. Yet it comes at a cost, and a hefty one at that. Is this high-performance machine everything I hoped for? Absolutely, but there are a few things that ‘grind my gears’ in the early going. Here’s a breakdown of what I love (and a few things I don’t) about Sony’s latest console.

Love List

1) Most Powerful Console on the Planet

The PS5 Pro’s powerhouse hardware sets it apart from the competition. Obviously, you can whip up a better PC but as far as consoles go, it doesn’t get any better than this. With a GPU packing 67% more Compute Units and 28% faster memory than the standard PS5, it’s built for some serious gaming. It’s easily the most powerful one I’ve played on. This upgraded GPU translates to a 45% boost in rendering speed, meaning smoother gameplay and less lag. Combined with the latest Wi-Fi 7 technology (in regions that support it), the PS5 Pro offers lightning-fast connections for online play and streaming. There is a lot to like under the hood.

2) Games Look Stunning

With its advanced ray tracing capabilities, the PS5 Pro raises the bar for graphics. Granted, I have yet to really put it through it’s paces but games do look and run fantastic. According to Sony, this new ray tracing system allows light reflections and refractions to render at up to three times the speed of the original PS5. Add to that the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR)—Sony’s new AI-driven upscaling technology—and you get visual fidelity that’s nearly indistinguishable from native 4K. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and F1 2024 look jaw-dropping on the PS5 Pro, with details and lighting that bring these worlds vividly to life.

3) Shape and Design is Impressive

Sony has managed to deliver a Hulk of a console while keeping the design sleek and refined. The PS5 Pro is a bit bigger than the PS5, but the aesthetic design is eye-catching without feeling bulky or overly complicated. It blends seamlessly into entertainment setups and gives off a futuristic vibe that matches its powerful internals. The console also includes a substantial 2TB SSD to accommodate the latest massive game files, meaning less hassle and more space for your favorite titles right out of the box. What is not to like about that?
