The First Call of Duty Warzone Will Shut Down This Thursday

The First Call of Duty Warzone Is Shutting Down on September 21st

On Thursday, September 21, the original Call of Duty Warzone (Warzone Caldera) will bid farewell. Since its launch in March 2020, this free-to-play battle royale sensation has drawn in 100 million players within just 13 months.

However, it briefly stepped into the shadows in November 2022 to make way for its successor. The original Warzone reemerged as Warzone Caldera, embracing a stripped-down approach and christened after its World War 2-themed island map, which replaced Verdansk.

Caldera players enjoyed the privilege of accessing all their hard-earned skins and weapons across three premium Call of Duty titles. This is a feature that didn’t transition to the new Warzone.

Call of Duty Warzone Caldera Shutting Down

Earlier in June, Activision announced they would cease support for the game this month. Now that it is coming to fruition, they are shifting focus toward other Call of Duty offerings.

Following Caldera’s closure, players will retain access to their purchased content within Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard multiplayer modes.

Looking ahead, Call of Duty enthusiasts can anticipate the release of this year’s installment, Modern Warfare 3, which serves as a direct sequel to the previous Modern Warfare 2. Scheduled for November 10, 2023, development duties are shared between Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward, with Treyarch taking the helm for its Zombies mode.
